At Rose Park Community Childcare (RPCC) we believe that learning extends ‘’beyond’’ the inside environment.
‘’Beyond the wall, there is always a beyond’’ – Loris Malaguzzi
That to go ‘’beyond’’ in learning involves passion, curiosity, commitment and knowledge of the natural world.
RPCC is working towards a sustainable future. Educators consider the impact that humans have on the environment and are thoughtful of this in our everyday practice and educational program.
Our nature play philosophy not only guides our ‘’teaching’’ and the children’s learning, but is viewed as a way of life. Educators use elements of nature in everyday practice as we recognise the many benefits that the environment plays in a child’s learning, development, health and wellbeing.
We advocate and allow time for children to play, explore, investigate and imagine; uninterrupted, unstructured but intentional.
RPCC educators intentionally guide children in play to show respect, empathy, compassion, care and value of all inhabitants of this earth. We acknowledge that the way in which adults treat the natural world, has a long-lasting effect on the way our children view and treat the environment.
Therefore, as adults, we model and lead by example.
As David Suzuki states ‘’unless we are willing to encourage our children to reconnect with and appreciate the natural world, we can’t expect them to help protect and care for it’’
